WHAT IS MIND/BODY MEDICINE?
As the father of medicine, Hippocrates, once wrote, "The natural healing force within each one of us is the greatest force in getting well”. Via your Autonomic Nervous System, your subconscious mind originally transmitted that healing power throughout your body. Simply put, re-activating that now dormant volcanic power inside you is Mind/Body Medicine.
WHY MIND/BODY MEDICINE NOW?
When mid-twentieth century medicine triumphantly marched in glory through the battlefields of polio, smallpox, and influenza, we were a species saved from the physical ravages of life. Sadly, somewhere along the line modern diseases began to resist this medical juggernaut. Adding insult to injury, our lifestyle choices and attitudes were being implicated as contributing factors to disease. We had met the enemy and it was us, our own behavior and stress hanging over us like The Sword of Damocles.
As necessity is the mother of invention, Mind/Body Therapy emerged as a complimentary adjunct to the obsolete Cartesian Medical model that saw mind and body as totally separate.
